Wildlife West MUSIC festivals--Contest Rules--The following contests are scheduled: Fiddle Contest, Mandolin Contest, Sunday, August 8 at 3pm .A SEPARATE ENTRY SHEET IS REQUIRED FOR EACH CONTESTANT. Contests are open to anyone having a current day ticket, except previous year’s First Place winners and those who are performing as a paid entertainer at Wildlife West. Registration is Saturday or Sunday, August 7 or 8, no later than 30 minutes before the entered contest is scheduled. Performance order will be by random draw, announced at the start of the scheduled contest. To keep contests on time, competition is limited to the first 15 entries. Entrants are to perform in the drawn order and may be disqualified by the MC if they are not available when called. In each contest, you must play two tunes of your choice. Selected tunes should be appropriate to the acoustic music objectives of this Festival – either Bluegrass, Celtic, Old Time or Western Swing. Contestants may use a maximum of one accompanist. Accompanists may NOT take a lead break and violation of this rule will result in disqualification. The only acceptable electric instrument is the bass guitar--all others must be acoustic. Performance time should be limited to 6 minutes or less, the judges may deduct for performances exceeding 6 minutes. Blind Judging. Contestants are not allowed to speak while on stage. Judging is based on a 1 (low) to 10 (high) point system in each of the following equally weighted factors: (1) rhythm; (2) intonation & execution; (3) material selection (difficulty and appropriateness); (4) style and arrangement. Judges will choose one winner and may request a runoff tune at their discretion. All judging decisions are final. The purpose of the contest is the staging of Acoustic Music in a fun setting for both contestants and audience. The contest organizers set the above rules and instruct judges to maintain objectivity, but rating musical performances is inherently subjective. 2010 Weekend ScheduleMusic begins 11am Saturday & Sunday Friday, August 6, 7pm Country Barn Dance - $10 at the door Syd Masters & the Swing Riders Saturday, August 7
