News Flash! Come see our Free Flight Falcon Shows

To return to the Wildlife West site, close this window.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no wait . . . it IS a bird! Rather, it’s a pair of birds. The duo of Peregrine Falcons – the fastest raptor on earth – are now appearing in free flight demonstrations over Wildlife West Nature Park in Edgewood, the newest addition to the park’s educational and entertainment repertoire.

It’s the only place in New Mexico to see this incredible free-flight bird show.  Every Sunday in July, August and September at 1:30 p.m., Wildlife West visitors can experience these magnificent birds up-close as they perform with world-renowned falconer Tom Smylie.

Learn how Peregrine Falcons went from the brink of extinction 35 years ago - with only 200 birds in the wild - to one of the most successful recovery stories in US history.

With more than 40 years experience with raptors, Smylie’s work with the “faster than a speeding bullet” birds includes researching their habitats and studying how they survive in the wild. During the course of the past eight years, he has also presented daily live bird shows at the Rio Grande Zoo.  Smylie has done research on raptors in Greenland, Alaska and all over the United States.

These live bird shows can be booked for private parties and/or business/employee events held at the park.
Come early and get a rare opportunity to be close to wildlife in their enhanced natural zoo habitats. Wildlife West is home to 24 species of native wildlife, including endangered Mexican wolves, cougars, black bear, fox, javelina, bobcat and more.

Wildlife West is located just 25 minutes east of Albuquerque, off Interstate-40 and legendary Route 66 in Edgewood.  Contact Wildlife West for more information about the free-flight falcon shows that will amaze people of all ages:  505.281.7655 or toll-free 1.877.981.WILD (9453); or info@wildlifewest.org.
